Stillmeadows now offers an IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) team. IEA is a program available for riders in grades 6-12. The Stillmeadows teams participate in the Hunt Seat division at the middle school and high school level. Our riders take 2-3 lessons per week, and compete in shows around Virginia (up to 5 shows per individual), earning points both individually and as a team. At the end of each season, points earned decide Regional champions, with the opportunity to advance to Zones and Nationals.
How the shows are run
IEA offers a unique showing opportunity for our riders, as they are required to supply neither equipment nor horse. The team travels to shows hosted by other riding schools, where they are entered in the division appropriate to their grade and skill level. They then are randomly assigned their mount for their class. Because the horses are new to the riders, judging is based on horsemanship and equitation. Stillmeadows is host to a show every year. Cost and lesson times
IEA lessons are offered throughout the week. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for lesson availability.
$40.00 per lesson if paid in cash. $50.00 per lesson if paid by check or credit card.
Additional show fees will be addressed per show
All equipment should be approved by Tracey or Sulu. If you have any questions, please ask!
– Beige or Khaki colored breeches (for use with tall boots) or jodphurs (fore use with paddock boots)
– Black Tall Boots (age 13+)
– Brown or black paddock boots with matching garter straps (under 13 years old)
– ASTM/SEI approved black show helmet (i.e. Charles Owens, IRH, GPA)
– Navy or Black show jacket
– White long-sleeved show shirt with collar (snap collar or button on is fine)
– Black leather gloves
– Dark brown or black belt
– Hairnets matching your hair color
For lessons, we recommend breeches and tall boots or paddock boots and half chaps. A well fitting, tucked in shirt allows your coach to accurately assess your position. An approved helmet is required by all riders at all times when mounted, with long hair neatly tied back, preferably in a hairnet and tucked into the helmet.
